CEA’s Connecticut Education Foundation Assists READ10:  READ10 is twice the recipient of the generosity of the Connecticut Education Foundation, a non-profit, charitable foundation that was established in 1991 by the Connecticut Education Association to help teachers and students experiencing catastrophic hardships.  One of our Members was awarded a grant from the Edward J. Boland Financial Assistance Fund to help with extraordinary unforeseen family circumstances resulting in overwhelming medical billsThis February READ10 applied for – and was awarded – a Children’s Fund grant for two siblings whose family is experiencing extreme financial hardship.  READ10 is grateful for the help CEA has given to members of our school community.  CEA and READ10…stronger together.

 

2016 Region 10 Holiday Toy Drive:  Through the kindness and generosity of teachers and students throughout Region 10, a record-breaking two thousand six hundred twenty-seven (2,627) toys were donated to benefit local children in need through the annual Holiday Toy Drive. READ 10 is proud to be able to make a difference in the lives of our students.

READ 10 Honors LSM Seniors:  This past June twenty-three deserving graduates of the Class of 2016 received a special honor through the generosity of our local teachers’ association, Regional Education Association District 10 (READ 10).  Continuing a 30-year tradition, the teachers of Regional School District 10 donated money to the READ 10 Scholarship Fund throughout the year by way of various fundraising campaigns including dress-down days, selling buttons and penny drives.

Graduating Lewis S. Mills seniors were encouraged to complete a scholarship application by March 1.  Selection criteria included character and citizenship, academic performance, involvement in school activities, community service and plans for education beyond high school.  Students planning a career in the field of education received special consideration.

From an applicant pool of forty-eight students, twenty-three graduates were each awarded a scholarship in the amount of $200.  They are: Julia Arel, Dane Atkins, Emily Burzynski, Kendall Butler, Emma Case, Jenna DeMicco, Thomas DiSorbo, Ashley Doyle, Angelica Fuller, Jenna Gabrielson, Daniella Giese, Jonathan Gorski, Jon Jennetta, Zachary Keller, Emma Kryzanski, Jillian Mazon, Nicholas McGough, Kali Meadows, Sarah O’Hazo, Alyssa Pequignot, Kara Schatz, Eleanor Spring and Tiana Tran.  READ 10 is proud of the accomplishments of our students and pleased to acknowledge their hard work!
